Donald Edwin Young was an American politician serving as the U.S. Representative for Alaska's at-large congressional district since 1973. A member of the Republican Party, he is the longest-serving member of the United States House of Representatives from the State of Alaska and the longest currently serving U.S. House member. He became Dean of the House of Representatives on December 5, 2017 after the resignation of John Conyers from Michigan. He is the first Republican in 84 years since Gilbert N. Haugen of Iowa to become Dean of the House, as well as the first from Alaska. He is the last remaining member of Congress who has been in office since the Nixon Administration.
