Carlos Celdran grew up in Dasmariñas Village in the Filipino city of Makati. He was creative at a young age. From 14 years he was a cartoonist for a local newspaper from Manila. He also had a T-shirt store with his sisters, in which he was responsible for the illustrations on the shirts. In 1990 he started a study at the Faculty of Visual Communication at the University of the Philippines. After a year he moved to the United States to continue studying at the Rhode Island School of Design. There he completed a Performance study. After his studies he moved to New York City, where from 1997 he worked as technical director for the Bill T. Jones / Arnie Zane Dance Company.
