I'm really proud of both of those guys. I have asked them to do a lot more than most freshman and they have stepped up in a big way.

This is about as distasteful a loss as I can remember, and it's baffling. After Sunday's game, I thought a good positive push was going to take place. It's the mystery of coaching.

He was like an adult playing with kids. He was getting shots for different kids.
Brad Soderberg -
I'll never limit his time during a game, but we'll give him days off from practice. I've never done that in my career, but this is a special case.
Brad Soderberg -
All along I have known they are confident players, but they don't do it in a boastful way. Tommie is not intimidated by anybody. I have this vivid memory of how we were about to tip it off at North Carolina, and he looked like he had been there 25 times before. Kevin is the same way. How many big shots has he made in every setting?
Brad Soderberg -
I actually didn't find out about a lot of music until I was older. Some people have been listening to the Beatles their whole lives; I didn't discover them until I was 18 years old.
Brad Soderberg -
It's the craziest thing I've ever been around. I've never been on a team, coach or player, where this has happened. I just hope we can take the positives to Rhode Island and see if we can play good basketball again.
Brad Soderberg -
I finally think they get it. When you've experienced something by doing that certain thing consistently well - defense - they get it.

I guess I'm one of the few guys not surprised they're playing the way they are. I knew that both kids were confident in their ability to play right away. We've asked them to do more than most freshmen are asked to do. I'm pleased and proud of the way they're playing.
Brad Soderberg -
Tommie didn't get a great shot. There's a great player that made a great play. It wasn't a great designed play. He just made it work.
Brad Soderberg -
I know that topic keeps coming up, but I'm most interested in quality basketball. We're having a hard time sustaining quality basketball, and tonight was as bad as it gets. Everything we tried didn't work. Every shot we attempted seemed a little off rhythm.
Brad Soderberg -
In the five years I've been here, this is the biggest game we've had. This one's kind of special.
Brad Soderberg -
A big part of making an album is that you want to have enough material - you want to have enough stuff for people to hear and know that it represents you. So it does sometimes turn into a situation where you're saying to the person you're working with, "Well, what do you want?" But then there are other times when I work with people and they'll turn to me and say, "How do you want to do this?" And that's actually when I work best.
Brad Soderberg -
We'll keep our ears open, but nothing is pending. I really was hoping to get him. I don't have a plan B. That's not totally unusual. We've gotten good players in the past in the summer, but it's not ideal.
Brad Soderberg
-
Not surprised. He's a Big Ten veteran. Those are the kinds of guys you build programs around.
Brad Soderberg -
That's how it's been for us. It's been unbelievable. We've literally won and lost for 19 straight games dating to last season. The good news is last year I would have died for that. The bad news is that we can't get on a winning streak.
Brad Soderberg -
That's not the way we scripted the game to start. It just snowballed from there. One of the keys was for us to shoot the ball well early so we didn't have that self-perpetuating problem. This has happened to us before where we get off to a poor shooting start, and we really have a hard time turning the tide.
Brad Soderberg -
It doesn't have a life of its own. You guys can write about it. But it's been weird.
Brad Soderberg -
It always seems to be the hole in the dike.
Brad Soderberg -
I want to establish quality on both ends of the floor. It's very important going into the conference tournament that we're not just good on offense, but also good on defense. We have to have a better defensive conversion from offense to defense, we need to take care of the ball. I need to see a complete performance.

He played essentially a second season with the Greek national team. I'm a little concerned about that, because Wednesday night against Rhode Island, he looked a little bit tired. I've been concerned all year with the volume of games he's played and that it could become a problem.
Brad Soderberg -
They just have to log minutes. As good a player as Tommie is, as good a player as Kevin is, they just need more minutes. They need to keep playing and they need to keep being challenged with great competition and they'll get their mouthful on Friday.
Brad Soderberg -
It goes without saying, you have to win. You have to win more than one of them. You have to win a couple of them.
Brad Soderberg -
It's an unfortunate way to end the season. We had a rough 10-day stretch here to end it. But such is life. We move on from here.
