At the end of the day, I know what my skill set and abilities are, and it's just going to take people a little while to recognize it. Whether that comes around or not, I'm not going to sit here in the corner and pout about it.
-
My wife is very supportive.
-
I wake up around 8:30, 8:45. I eat my breakfast, hit the road by 10 A.M., and get to the gym by 11.
-
I'd rather have head stomps and kicks to the head on the ground rather than elbows because I think to kick someone in the head while they're laying on their back is very hard. Elbows are easy. You can be here, and I just cut you and won the fight.
-
That's one of the things I loved about Pride: the first round was ten minutes.
-
I saw Bobby Green and Lando Vannata, and everybody in the back was like, 'Oh, man, that's a sick fight!' And I'm like, 'Dude, look at his face, that cannot be good for his brain.' I'm just honest.
-
For every champion, after you win the belt, you want to defend it as many times as possible.
-
One of the things I always tell people is that when it comes to fighting and fight week, then I'm there for one purpose, and that's to fight and get the hell out of dodge.
-
I wasn't a person who hated working. When I was working and training, I loved it. I loved that I had to work that hard. I think it transformed into the gym and then transformed into the octagon. It was a good thing.
-
That's kind of how I see my workmanship: it's how many hours I put in that makes me better.
-
You have to take the belt, and I dont give my opponents a chance to take my belt. I go out there and take away their opportunity to take my belt away from me.
-
I can eat whatever I want, and I don't get over 145 pounds. A lot of the guys who fight at 125 pounds, they get pretty big, and when it gets closer to the fight, they're walking around at 135 pounds. For me, I try to stay the same weight I typically walk around at.
-
I don't care about being the champ champ. I want to be the only consecutive 12-time defending champion in any mixed martial arts promotion.
-
At one point in time in my career, it was like, 'Oh, he never finishes nobody.' Then, the next thing you know, I'm breaking peoples' arms, making them tap out, and knocking them out. Then, the next thing you know, it's, 'Oh, I don't like his personality.' It's like, 'Okay, well, if you don't like who I am, I can't help you there, buddy.'
-
I'm a good dad. I'm an evolved dad. You know, you see a lot of guys when they're in training camp, they go off, do their own thing. But I'm in the midst of it. Swim lessons? I'm there. Changing diapers, teething, doctor's appointments, I'm there 24/7.
-
'Super Contra' was the game I fell in love with. I played and beat that game with my mom.
-
I guess I'm bothered by how fans react to certain things and how they're interested in certain things over true talent. I've always appreciated talent over everything else.
-
I don't want to say I was ever scared to voice my opinion. I was just trying to make a good example, I guess you could say. And even when I'm more outspoken, I believe that I am still making a good example for younger athletes and also future athletes.
-
A lot of people might sit back and watch Dominick Cruz doing his footwork, and say, 'Oh, Dominick Cruz just dancing around, and he runs away.' It's a totally different atmosphere until you get in there, and you actually experience it.
-
Honestly, I would love to fight Henry Cejudo. You've got that gold medalist in the Olympics, I would love to test myself against that.
-
Pay-Per-View is run by drama. It is. It's true. I've done the research for myself. You look at Jon Jones. When Jon Jones fought Machida, probably did about $200,000, $300,000. When he fought Cormier, they made, like, $875,000.
-
I want the whole world to watch me fight. But you know if people are just tuning in to hear me trash talk are not fight fans.
-
That's the beautiful thing about mixed martial arts - and I'll tell people that - you have to think outside of the box.
-
You look into an encyclopedia and ask what fighter can do any type of martial art at a high-caliber level, my picture will show up.
