Ziaur Rahman (Bengali: জিয়াউর রহমান Ji-yaur Rôhman; 19 January 1936 – 30 May 1981) was the 7th President of Bangladesh. He was an army general turned politician who, as a major in the army, had read out the Independence Declaration for Bangladesh on behalf of its first independent Head of State Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on 27 March 1971.
