George Charles Leef is the director of research of the James G. Martin Center for Academic Renewal. He received a Bachelor of Arts from Carroll University in 1973 and a Juris Doctor from the Duke University School of Law in 1977. He was a faculty member at Northwood University, where he taught business law, economics, and logic. He was later a vice-president at the John Locke Foundation and director of the Martin Center until the then-Pope Center became an independent nonprofit in 2003.

What is so bad about big government? My indictment of big government is that it is bad because it attacks liberty, prosperity, progress, harmony, and morality. Thanks to big government, we have significantly less of all of those good things than we would if we had been able to keep government right-sized. Big government is cancerous.
