We're mostly macrobiotic, but sometimes I take the family out for a pizza.

My role in society, or any artist's or poet's role, is to try and express what we all feel. Not to tell people how to feel. Not as a preacher, not as a leader, but as a reflection of us all.

I just like TV. I think to me, it replaced the fireplace when I was a child. They took the fire away and they put a TV in instead and I got hooked on it.

I was feeling insecure you might not love me anymore...

The pressures of being a parent are equal to any pressure on earth. To be a conscious parent, and really look to that little being's mental and physical health, is a responsibility which most of us, including me, avoid most of the time because it's too hard.

Everything I've ever done is out. I don't have boxes of unreleased stuff. There's nothing in the files. I can never keep anything unless I don't like the sound of it or it didn't work. If I can sing it to an engineer, I can sing it to anyone.

When you wake up and your heart is going like the clappers or your back feels strained, or you develop some other hang-up, you should let your mind go to the pain and the pain itself will regurgitate the memory which originally caused you to suppress it in your body. In this way the pain goes to the right channel instead of being repressed again, as it is if you take a pill or a bath, saying 'Well, I'll get over it'. Most people channel their pain into God or masturbation or some dream of making it.

If I had the capabilities of being something other than I am, I would. It's no fun being an artist. You know what it's like, writing, it's torture.

I was trying to say something about Christianity, the idea that you have to be tortured to attain heaven. I didn't believe that.

How can I give love when I don't know what it is I'm giving?
John Lennon The Beatles -
The people have the power. All we have to do is awaken the power in the people.
John Lennon The Beatles -
We've got this gift of love, but love is like a precious plant. You can't just accept it and leave it in the cupboard or just think it's going to get on by itself. You've got to keep watering it. You've got to really look after it and nurture it.
John Lennon The Beatles -
Art is only a way of expressing pain.

Most of the songs came from Europe and Africa and now they were coming back to us. Many of Bob Dylan's best songs came from Scotland, Ireland or England. It was a sort of cultural exchange.

The Beatles were just a band that made it very, very big, that's all.

I used to hide my real emotions in gobbledegook, like in In His Own Write. When I wrote teenage poems, I wrote in gobbledegook because I was always hiding my real emotions from Mimi.

It was a choice of making it or still eating chicken onstage.

At one time I was so much involved in the religious bullshit that I used to go around calling myself a Christian Communist, but as Janov says, religion is legalised madness.
John Lennon The Beatles -
When I started, rock and roll itself was the basic revolution to people of my age and situation. We needed something loud and clear to break through all the unfeeling and repression that had been coming down on us kids.
John Lennon The Beatles -
Now The Beatles are four separate people, we don't have the impact we had when we were together.

I'm not afraid of death because I don't believe in it. It's just getting out of one car, and into another...

Man, you should have seen them kicking Edgar Allan Poe.
John Lennon The Beatles -
The world went mad and used us as an excuse.

Where do people get off saying the Beatles should give $200,000,000 to South America? You know, America has poured billions into places like that. It doesn't mean a damn thing. After they've eaten that meal, then what? It lasts for only a day. After the $200,000,000 is gone, then what? It goes round and round in circles. You can pour money in forever. After Peru, then Harlem, then Britain. There is no one concert. We would have to dedicate the rest of our lives to one world concert tour, and I'm not ready for it. Not in this lifetime, anyway.
