I don't purchase records. I do enjoy listening to things like Japanese folk music or Indian music.

I used to be cruel to my woman, and physically - any woman. I was a hitter. I couldn't express myself and I hit. I fought men and I hit women. That is why I am always on about peace, you see. It is the most violent people who go for love and peace. Everything's the opposite. But I sincerely believe in love and peace. I am a violent man who has learned not to be violent and regrets his violence. I will have to be a lot older before I can face in public how I treated women as a youngster.

I always read the papers, the political bits.
-
I dream in colour, and its always very surreal. My dream world is complete Hieronymus Bosch and Dali. I love it, I look forward to it every night...

If art were to redeem man, it could do so only by saving him from the seriousness of life and restoring him to an unexpected boyishness.
-
That's the choice they allow you - now the outlet is being a pop star, which is really what I'm saying on the album in 'Working class hero'. As I told Rolling Stone, it's the same people who have the power, the class system didn't change one little bit.
-
I go to restaurants and the groups always play 'Yesterday.' I even signed a guy's violin in Spain after he played us 'Yesterday.' He couldn't understand that I didn't write the song. But I guess he couldn't have gone from table to table playing 'I Am The Walrus.'

The cross of the Legion of Honor has been conferred on me. However, few escape that distinction.
-
Love is the answer, and you know that for sure; Love is a flower, you've got to let it grow
-
It seems that all revolutions end up with a personality cult - even the Chinese seem to need a father-figure.
-
Don't believe that jazz about there's nothing you can do, 'turn on and drop out, man' - because you've got to turn on and drop in, or they're going to drop all over you.
-
To begin with, working class people reacted against our openness about sex. They are frightened of nudity, they're repressed in that way as well as others. Perhaps they thought 'Paul McCartney is a good lad, he doesn't make trouble'.
-
Like Paul Kraston said, all I ask in life is a water bed, a TV and a typewriter. Well, I'll just have an ordinary bed, a TV and a guitar.
-
Limitless undying love which shines around me like a million suns it calls me on and on across the universe.
-
Paul McCartney and I made a deal when we were 15. There was never a legal deal between us, just a deal we made when we decided to write together that we put both our names on it, no matter what.
-
My life with the Beatles had become a trap... I always remember to thank Jesus for the end of my touring days; if I hadn't said that the Beatles were 'bigger than Jesus' and upset the very Christian Ku Klux Klan, well, Lord, I might still be up there with all the other performing fleas! God bless America. Thank you, Jesus.
-
I don't believe in Beatles, I just believe in me.
-
We are all Christ and Hitler. Yoko and I want Christ to win.
-
I've always been politically minded, you know, and against the status quo.
-
I wanted to give five solid years of being there all the time with Sean. I hadn't seen my first son Julian grow up, and now there's a 17-year-old man on the phone talking about motorbikes. No matter what artistic gains I get, or gold records, if I can't make a success out of my relationship with the people I love, then everything else is bullsh*t.
-
Yoko Ono was well into liberation before I met her. She'd had to fight her way through a man's world - the art world is completely dominated by men - so she was full of revolutionary zeal when we met.
-
'Revolution' . There were two versions of that song but the underground left only picked up on the one that said 'count me out'.
-
I am a violent man who has learned not to be violent and regrets his violence.

The writing of the Beatles, or John and Paul's contribution to the Beatles in the late sixties - had a kind of depth to it, a more mature, more intellectual approach. We were different people, we were older. We knew each other in all kinds of different ways than when we wrote together as teenagers and in our older twenties.
