Our families and friends all understand what we're going through. We try to have time for everything and everyone, but sometimes that's just impossible. With our success comes a lot of extra responsibility, and we have to be prepared to make sacrifices for the band. Right now Def Leppard comes before anything else; that's the way it has to be, whether we like it or not. We're all like brothers in this band, and we owe each other the time and effort required to keep us on top.

Mutt Lange is a slave driver, but he is a genius.
-
When we try to write a pop song, we go for standard pop arrangements, even to the point where we will go to the key change at the end, which is really cheesy.
-
What, shagging? It really depends who I'm with and what we're doing. I won't say the real answer, because it'll sound like I'm bragging!
-
Only people who really know me will believe this, but I never had one. I never chatted a girl up in my life. I'm a little bit shy. I've always been introduced to someone, or it just happens. I've never been one for making a move on somebody. I think people can see right through that.

If I couldn't play drums it would have destroyed me. If you're thrown in the deep end you swim, and that's basically what I did. I had to do it and with the rest of the band behind me and the encouragement I got from people from all over the world, I knew that I was going to play.

I don't have to try and be a comedian to fit in the band. It's such a comfortable vibe. Had I been born in Sheffield, I probably would have been in the original lineup.
-
Yeah, I'm the 'new guy'.
-
We make music for escapism. It's like Star Warsfor the ears. Cult movies are really cool, but I'd rather go see a Steven Spielberg movie.
-
Before my accident I was a little too... selfish and self-absorbed and for me, to now be at the place where I can kinda give back and inspire people. I'm blessed. I'm really blessed.

We enjoyed an incredible response when we did the video for 'Bringin' On The Heartbreak'. We did it a couple of months after the album had been released and it perked up sales. We really enjoyed making them - each video had a different theme and we did them all at one time over the span of a couple of days. Our music stands up on its own, but the video adds an extra element.
-
We just wanted to put a smile on people's faces. That's all we ever wanted to do.
-
As far as we're concerned, we all have opinions on different things, but just because you're in a group and you can broadcast them doesn't mean your opinion is right.
-
We use to catch hell in clubs from people who were into punk. They wanted us to be just like them, but we wanted to rock.
-
A goat's hoof, while on tour with Dio. Some weird chick thought we were into devil worship ... It was cold, wet and disgusting!
-
I don't think we'll ever get too theatrical on stage. I can't see us using exotic props or fancy stages. Of course, we want to put on the best show possible, but we want the music to be the star of the show, not the stage set.
-
That was the most exciting period, I think: at first, when you get the success on that really large scale.
-
This was our first, recorded in 1979 and released in 1980. Star struck teens at Ringo Starr's home recording studio in the South of England. Motorbikes in the swimming pool, Vodka bottles for daze. The most fun any band ever had doing any record in any studio ... which is why we never listen to it anymore.
-
You can practice and rehearse as a group forever. The only way you can learn how to do it live is on stage. The only way you can learn to be a performer is to actually perform.
-
Manhattan's always fascinating, too, just a big, stinky, smelly conglomeration of numbered avenues and streets, but it's just got a vibe that's hard to beat. I shouldn't like it, but I do. I can't put my finger on it.
-
We expect better things for the future now that Phil Collen is in the group.
-
I love the fact we're still on the road. I was born to be a factory worker really, so for me the chance to get on stage at Wembley 30 years after we started is amazing.
-
We've learned that videos can play a big part in helping a band become successful in America. We released the video for Bringin' on the Heartache quite a while after the release of High 'n' Dry, yet the response was unbelievable. MTV played it, and the record went back up the charts. It was unbelievable. We realized then that videos were going to play a big role with this band.

I've never been that good with pickup lines. I'd always let them come to me. The great thing about being in a band is if you wanted to meet a girl, most likely they'd find you. You don't have to work too hard. I was always pretty polite. I'd always ask girls' permission to kiss them.
