Artists Quotes
-
We could ask artists from abroad to come in too, so that there could be a mixing and matching of skills from Europe, America and here which would widen our world.
Siobhan Davies

I have a feeling a lot of artists' work got lost because of AIDS. Howard was fortunate because his family and friends supported him, but a chilling thing I remember was these guys at St. Vincent's Hospital who would call out for someone to listen to them, just for a moment. They were dying alone. Who knows what happened to their work? It's been a process to follow the thread to find out everything Howard did. It's getting over that shock.

The traditional difficulty of balancing the mechanical with the imaginative schools of photography still operates. In schools of photography meaningful art education is often lacking and on the strength of their technical ability alone students, deprived of a richer artistic training, are sent forth inculcated with the belief that they are creative photographers and artists. It is yet a fact that today, as in the past, the most inspiring and provocative works in photography come as much (and probably more) from those who are in the first place artists.

Out of an intuitive experience of the world comes a continuous flow of novel distinctions. Purely rational understanding, on the other hand, serves to confirm old mindsets, rigid categories. Artists, who live in the same world as the rest of us, steer clear of these mindsets to make us see things anew.

It is ridiculous to say that art has nothing to do with morality. What is true is that the artist's business is not that of the policeman.

I work with many jazz artists as Miles Davis, Laughlin, etc.. One of the things all these artists had in common is that they had no fear.

The Zodiak is history. I don't think it would be possible today to built up such an artslab, at least not in the way it worked out at the time, which was somehow accidentally, as part of the change of the paradigmata at the time. Nowadays as always people / artists have to learn to be free, to free themselves from being / feeling addicted to what's mainstream, what sells, what's successsful in terms of what the market expects. Contemporary music / art needs charismatic personalities who don't care at all about what the massmarket agrees to. There were and are not many of those personalities over the milleniums, as you perhaps realise.

All Artists are Anarchists.

There's 20 really cutting-edge, cool artists on there, so I was so thrilled to be a part of it, ... And it's a really fun song.
Cassandra Peterson

I very often think about doing things that I would want other artists to do. Like, if I'm a fan of whoever, I want to be treated a certain way. So I realized it came off almost elitist to ignore the whole world of Twitter and Facebook.
