James Montgomery (4 November 1771 – 30 April 1854) was a Scottish-born hymn writer, poet and editor. He was concerned with humanitarian causes such as the abolition of slavery and of exploitation of child chimney sweeps. He was raised in and theologically trained by the Moravian Church.
