I was happy in Dublin because it is very cosmopolitan.
-
Zeppelin were a blues band but also so much more, as were The Stones.
-
That's why 60,000 people go ape when the Stones play 'Satisfaction.' The songs are part of their legacy, and you fall back in love with them over the years.

Any time I can get off is my favorite holiday. I don't pay too much attention to traditional times because we're often working on Christmas and have to celebrate in January. But I love Christmas. The old clichés are true. To watch someone's face when they're opening a present is mind-blowing really.
-
I've only ever written two or three song parts in my life ... Er, no, actually I wrote the entire Slang album, but the band will never admit to that! I don't mind carrying those deadweights - at least they're decent company. I wish I'd written 'Happy Birthday', just for the royalties.
-
Being in a band is all about compromise. When everybody can compromise and still feel they're going in the right direction, then you have a happy band.

These are very difficult times for new artists. Back in the day, a hit song could really seep into a person's DNA with radio and MTV. A hit today is not the same as a hit twenty years ago. Now there is so much competition, it is very hard to reach the people. The music scene is so overly saturated. There are no gatekeepers like there used to be.

Chasing the sensation. Whether it was drugs or sex or whatever. Those things had become my main focus in life.
-
I don't know how anyone could vote Republican. It's so obvious that their only interest is keeping the rich rich.
-
The band is a millionaire. We as individuals aren't.
-
Just the same way I'd say a prayer before going onstage, taking that even further and using the drum to inspire people. And using that as a vehicle for the intention.
-
A lot of people go, "I'm influenced by the Beatles and Zeppelin," and they just sound like a karaoke.
-
I feel so incredibly vulnerable and exposed when I have to talk into a microphone and bare my soul so to speak.
-
The Internet has definitely opened doors and leveled the playing field for musicians.
-
Where I live now, in Laguna Hills, CA. It's brilliant, love the weather and going to the beach and all that stuff.
-
When doing the mix, there's five different pairs of ears. We all hear it differently. We said we'll be mixing this album for the next three years if we don't let someone take charge. We let Mutt mix it.
-
No matter how well a band performs, if its songs are a pile of junk, the group might as well not put the effort into it.
-
I've had a lot of fans come up to me and say, 'I love the video song.' It's like it's a soundtrack recording or something. We'll never forget that the music comes first. I sometimes find video a little distasteful for that reason. People associate a band with their video images rather than with the music they produce, that's a little scary.
-
Some of the demos we do are better than a lot of people's albums.
-
The big thing that everyone forgets, you're famous and on TV and everything, but I think there's something very rewarding to be able to write a song, record it, and have it turn out as you heard it in your head, or even better.
-
Technology has made it much easier to make and manipulate music. Studio-driven, machine-driven music does not always transcend into being a good live act. Many current acts are great live, but many cannot cut it live. The music is not organic.

My 22nd birthday, live at the Philadelphia Spectrum with Dio. Tobruk was recording and invited us over for a very wild party.

We did spend a great deal of time together while making this album (Pyromania). We spent a month in Ireland during preproduction without anyone or anything except our instruments and our amps. And believe me, a situation like that can really test your friendship. It's even tougher than being on the road where you have plenty of diversions to occupy your time. When you're thrown together in close quarters with only each other to deal with, your really find out what everyone's like. We came through that with flying colours, and that cohesiveness carried over to the recording session as well.

We have a fining system if anyone's late, a dollar a minute. It all goes into a cup and at the end of the tour we have a party.
