Chasing the sensation. Whether it was drugs or sex or whatever. Those things had become my main focus in life.

A helicopter with pilot, Kashoggi's yacht with crew, and a small town with a female population.

My 22nd birthday, live at the Philadelphia Spectrum with Dio. Tobruk was recording and invited us over for a very wild party.

F*ck, I can't remember. Jesus, we are getting boring! I suppose the last one I recall was at Sav's (Leppard bassist, Rick Savage). He's got a place in Dublin. It was very cool, but I left at 2am when a lot of people were just arriving. When you don't drink, you tend to leave before people start slobbering all over you.

The band is a millionaire. We as individuals aren't.

The Internet has definitely opened doors and leveled the playing field for musicians.

I was happy in Dublin because it is very cosmopolitan.

I still enjoy having my own idea about what a song means. I don't know if I'd have liked having videos on TV when I was growing up. I always found my own mental images to be very strong and appealing. I hope that we're not limiting the imaginations of the fans out there.

Where I live now, in Laguna Hills, CA. It's brilliant, love the weather and going to the beach and all that stuff.

Good musicians are often difficult to hang out with; that's the hardest part, finding people you get on with.
-
On the first record we had no experience whatsoever. We went in and relied on energy. Without experience we got our ideas off of other records, which is a mistake.

Every night is a joy; you get an hour and a half of all these hits. It's a lot of fun.

We did spend a great deal of time together while making this album (Pyromania). We spent a month in Ireland during preproduction without anyone or anything except our instruments and our amps. And believe me, a situation like that can really test your friendship. It's even tougher than being on the road where you have plenty of diversions to occupy your time. When you're thrown together in close quarters with only each other to deal with, your really find out what everyone's like. We came through that with flying colours, and that cohesiveness carried over to the recording session as well.

I've had a lot of fans come up to me and say, 'I love the video song.' It's like it's a soundtrack recording or something. We'll never forget that the music comes first. I sometimes find video a little distasteful for that reason. People associate a band with their video images rather than with the music they produce, that's a little scary.

With Dio, my first time to Japan, middle of summer, and it was rainy, hot, humid. We went on at 2 AM after Foreigner and Sting and there were a couple of Japanese bands before us. Mama's Boys went on at the crack of dawn. They were serving breakfast backstage.

If you want to achieve something, you have to work a little harder and get out of your comfort zone. That is with everything: relationships, the band, music, athletics. All of the above.
-
When anything happens to us we always pull together, not only personally but musically. You get on with working and it seems to take your mind off whatever bad things seem to happen.
-
Just the same way I'd say a prayer before going onstage, taking that even further and using the drum to inspire people. And using that as a vehicle for the intention.

I'm a big, big blues fan and the last several years I've really invested in the blues a lot, and I think my playing is getting better because of it - not necessarily better on a technical level, but certainly on a level of appropriateness.
-
And more importantly, I wouldnt be the person I am today, I wouldnt be where I am now and I may not even have been here if it wasnt for the accident.

Technology has made it much easier to make and manipulate music. Studio-driven, machine-driven music does not always transcend into being a good live act. Many current acts are great live, but many cannot cut it live. The music is not organic.

We try to look good and have style.

In our apartment in New York we'd see something out of the corner of our eye but we didn't know what it was, and when we moved we never saw it again.

I don't know how anyone could vote Republican. It's so obvious that their only interest is keeping the rich rich.
