Well, the first thing I can tell you is that I think it was about eight hours in special effects for that whole opening sequence of putting the arm on. Yeah, that was quite an experience. I didn't realize that would turn into such a cult film. Again, you never know. I remember when we did that, the nights in Toronto were very cold. Also, just as it was about to come out, right before the opening, was when that whole Jeffrey Dahmer thing happened. I remember they were thinking about delaying the opening of the film, or at least I heard talks about toning down some of the ads. But it certainly became quite a cult film over the years.

For the French, there are so many emotions relating to Sarkozy and politicians in general that I think the film will generate a lot of passion, whether it be negative or positive. Above all, it's a fictional film. It was important not to make a documentary and to really pay attention to the images. From the choice of the actors to the mise en scene, the film is completely cinematographic. It's not just a boring political movie.

I think that's true of all cinema, that's why cinema is the great humanistic art form. Whatever the film is, it doesn't matter what the film is about, or even whether it's a narrative or figurative film at all, it's an invitation to step into somebody else's shoes. Even if it's the filmmaker's shoes filming a landscape, you go into somebody else's shoes and you look out of their lens, you look out of their eyes and their imagination. That's what going to the pictures is all about.
