I was surprised. I can hear the cheers too, but there were some boos. I think it was kind of retribution for what happened in Miami over Christmas. I think the Miami fans were so vocal over Kobe.

I wouldn't ask him to go on the trip. We want him to stay behind, work out and get an opportunity to condition himself. It makes no sense for him to go along on the trip and stay in the hotel while we play.

It was a disappointing loss for us as a basketball team. We couldn't keep them off the free throw line in the fourth quarter. We just didn't have things go our way.
Phil Jackson -
With our team, we're still learning what's a good enough lead. We didn't use the clock wisely and they made some big plays.
Phil Jackson -
No. He's not. He doesn't have the base.
Phil Jackson -
Our particular team right now is not a team that does well resting on any kind of sense of accomplishment. We still have to drive ourselves and drive the team forward.
Phil Jackson -
Teams have streaks, they get on a run, and this is fortunate for us because this team had been dying to do something like this for a couple years now.
Phil Jackson -
You saw the apparent schizophrenia of these teams. They play great for a while and then they have trouble operating. What you see is young teams learning to play a consistent game. No quality in the direction of their discipline.

We've had a couple momentum shifts throughout the course of the year, and this is what we've been talking about as a group - we want to build the momentum, because now is the time to do it. We've shown signs of this - the Houston game at the end of the road trip.
Phil Jackson -
We're not even going to discuss it. It's a basketball team and we've got to focus on what we need to do.
Phil Jackson -
It's just a personal challenge for him to attack the whole team.
Phil Jackson -
I think that it can provide a space away from the other things that I'm sure have encroached upon his life and really give him a chance to do what he does best, ... His genius is basketball, and to do that he's got to play it at the highest level.

My philosophy is that you don't motivate players with speeches; you have motivated players that you draft. That's where they come in, and those are the guys that are competitive. You can not teach competitiveness.
Phil Jackson -
This is a team we told our guys not to foul, and we end up sending them to the line 35 times. That was one of the things we didn't expect.

Basketball is a sport that involves the subtle interweaving of players at full speed to the point where they are thinking and moving as one.
Phil Jackson -
Obviously when the threes aren't going it's time to stop shooting them. We kept going to it and got desperate at the end trying to hit home runs. We can't do that.
Phil Jackson -
I think the most rewarding part of the job, and I think most coaches would say it, is practice. If you have it, a very good practice in which you have 12 guys participate, and they can really get something out of it, lose themselves in practice.
Phil Jackson -
It was designed for him (Bryant) to catch the ball and find what he could find available. I have to give him credit that he can shoot that shot. I have to allow his judgment to be so he felt like he could do that at the time. I wanted him to penetrate.
Phil Jackson -
Kobe is missing out by not finding a way to become part of a system that involves giving to something larger than himself.
Phil Jackson -
The more you draw attention to it, the worse it becomes. So it's better just to show up and swallow your pride.
Phil Jackson
-
It's a confidence builder for this team. It shows we can overcome odds.
Phil Jackson -
The league is known for its vindictiveness. But we didn't anticipate a suspension.
Phil Jackson -
The strength of the team lies within the individual. And the strength of the individual lies within the team.
Phil Jackson -
I know these teams have to have an answer, and it's time for the draft to commence and things to happen. I'll be off the queue here in another day or two.
