He is everything, and as we are joined to Him the poverty of our personal identity is lost in the fullness of His eternal greatness.

The Holy Spirit is profoundly committed to restoring the first commandment to first place in our lives.

Humility says, “Lord, I am empty without Your fullness; I am broken without Your wholeness; I am helpless without Your strength; I am clueless without your wisdom. Apart from You I am nothing. I need You!

For where there are envy, strife, and divisions among you, are you not carnal and behaving like mere men?
Bob Sorge -
Sin is like a cancer; God’s presence is like radiation on that cancer.
Bob Sorge -
So the power of prayer is found, not in convincing God of my agenda, but in waiting upon Him to hear His agenda.

The wisest thing you'll ever do in this life is to draw close to God and to seek Him with all your heart.
Bob Sorge -
Feelings of guilt will never motivate anyone to spend more time with God; in actuality, they will discourage you and make you feel like a failure. Guilt has the potential to totally snuff out whatever small flame there presently might be.

The longing of your breast is to be a living flame, ignited with the exhilaration of beholding His beauty, worshiping Him with uninhibited abandon, and deployed into the world with self-controlled, calculated zeal that does not love its own life even unto death.
Bob Sorge -
The nature of the enemy's warfare in your life is to cause you to become discouraged and to cast away your confidence. Not that you would necessarily discard your salvation, but you could give up your hope of God's deliverance. The enemy wants to numb you into a coping kind of Christianity that has given up hope of seeing God's resurrection power.

Don’t come to Jesus and try to be intellectually stimulating to Him. There’s nothing you could say that would cause Him to respond, “Wow, that’s a neat insight!” You may as well abort all attempts to be cerebral with Jesus; He simply doesn’t try to engage us at that level. Just come and love Him. He’s looking for heartfelt sincerity, for visceral passion, for authentic relationship.

To be set on fire, you must get close to God. When you feel cold, distant, and "out of it" spiritually, it's time to retreat to the closet, place yourself before the fireplace of His word, and allow the intensity of His face to restore your fervency.
Bob Sorge -
I take, O cross, thy shadow For my abiding place I ask no other sunshine than The sunshine of His face Content to let the world go by To know no gain nor loss My sinful self my only shame My glory all the cross.

Our devotional life with God is more like the planting of a garden. When we arise from sowing into the secret place, we will not usually be able to point to immediate results or benefits. What we sow today will require an entire season of growth before the results are manifest.

All of us have the potential to be an Absalom, and all of us have the potential to be a David. Absalom felt rejected by his father, David, so he took revenge by seeking to usurp his father’s sphere of authority. David felt rejected by Absalom, but he allowed that rejection to keep him soft and crying out to God.

When there’s wickedness in our hearts, God will wait until that wickedness surfaces. He is capable of applying as much heat as it takes to surface the garbage in our hearts, no matter how much we might try to mask our sinfulness with piety.
Bob Sorge -
Prayeressness is the first sign of prideful independence. We begin to trim back our secret time with God when we're feeling great about ourselves, energetic and optimistic about our future, and confident about the path we're taking. It's the first sign that we're getting full of ourselves.
Bob Sorge -
Nothing is more dangerous to the kingdom of darkness than a man or woman who has found the unceasing wellspring of heaven’s life.

Loyalty is from above, betrayal is from below.

The release of power accelerated and released forces that were both positive and negative. When we understand the accelerating power of miracles, we understand why Jesus so often told those He healed to tell no one about it. Because when they broadcasted His miracles, it fueled the envy of His enemies. When their envy reached its fullness, His enemies crucified Him. By fueling their envy, every miracle took Jesus a step closer to His crucifixion.

But if you have bitter envy and self-seeking in your hearts, do not boast and lie against the truth.

Scriptures make it clear that we can drink of God’s river now, here, in this life, even if it’s only in a measure. We don’t have to wait to drink until we’ve passed on into the glorified state. Jesus said this river would flow into us, through us, and out of us to others. “‘He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water’” (John 7:38). This glorious river of the Spirit is available to each of us, and the greater our thirst, the greater our participation in this river (see Matthew 5:6). We can drink of this river now! Its source is God.

The fear of The Lord is a brake that stops you when you're in the wrong direction.

Finally, by lifting our hands we symbolically receive everything God is doing in our lives.
