What's working for me is like when I go into the studio, I'm trying to get goosebumps.
Eric Benet -
I don't do well at picking first single.

For those who have never seen me live, you kinda need to check me out.
Eric Benet -
I turn on the radio now and I don't have anything against a lot of sequenced and programmed and electronic music, a lot of it is dope and it's the future. It's what popular music has evolved to.
Eric Benet -
I have learned from my mistakes and accept that change is important. Not all change is bad. Therefore, you have to be more mindful and accountable about the decisions you make in life. Even though I've made mistakes, I can say my journey is full of authenticity because I didn't deny my ups and downs.

I think that whatever you do, if you're a singer, a rapper, an architect, dentist, treat that like when you're doing it, your whole career depends on that moment.
Eric Benet -
I'm trying to laugh uncontrollably with whoever I'm making a song with because whatever we just listened to that we just came up with is so dope. I'm chasing that feeling in the studio, not like a trend or what's hot on the radio at the moment. It just seems like the more I do that, the better I get at what I do. I'm going to keep doing that.
Eric Benet -
Being a parent is not easy, but speaking for myself, it's a wonderful blessing and the most rewarding job I've ever had.

For me, when I want to be emotionally moved by a vocal, I don't want to hear auto tune on it, I want to hear the beautiful imperfections.
Eric Benet -
I am now in a place where I have to be truer to myself first before anyone else. If you're not real, how can you expect others to be real with you? The older you get; you aim to have an understanding of who you are as a person. But, I can honestly say, I am a better me than I've ever been in younger years.
Eric Benet -
I don't really chase trends and fads because they are fleeting.
Eric Benet -
I have always tried to keep an honest, age-appropriate line of communication open with my daughter,India, even during the teen years, a painful time of development when they usually shut down, and the last person they want to speak to is a parent. But India would always tell me what was going on, so I really encourage people to be as open with your children as you possibly can.
Eric Benet -
I think the one thing that never goes away is soul and emotion and vulnerability and finding your strength in our vulnerability. I think when I apply all of that to music, it somehow just ends up being classic. It's the sum of a bunch of things that never go away.
Eric Benet -
I like to go into the studio and start work on a project when it's time. I don't like to do it too early or too late.

As accurately as I possibly can. I explain , to my kid, that love's an elusive, fragile and resilient thing. And as far as the lyrics, I say that part of being an adult is being sexual, and when you're in a relationship, to express yourself that way is a beautiful thing.
Eric Benet -
I was pretty much a single-father for most of my daughter India's life. Looking back, were there things I could've done better? Yes, but I'm still pretty proud of myself for having raised such an amazing individual. Being a parent is not easy, but speaking for myself, it's a wonderful blessing and the most rewarding job I've ever had.
Eric Benet -
I like to leave all of my soul on the stage where I perform.
Eric Benet -
One of the least enjoyable things for me to do is to talk about myself.
Eric Benet -
If I want to be moved by the track, I don't want it to be sequenced, I want it to be somebody playing the guitar or piano or a horn arrangement where you can hear the breath. You can almost smell the studio while listening to the music. For me, that's what moves me emotionally, that's what I came from. I think that's always going to work best for me.
Eric Benet -
I just try and get better and better at me with every album.

My wife and I are parents to a 4 year old and a 2 year old. It's really important for me to always be there for bath time and breakfast time and on the weekends.
Eric Benet -
I treat every time I walk on the stage like it's the performance of my life.
Eric Benet -
I think the best advice I would give young artists is to always be working on your craft, because there are so many people out there with a dream similar to yours, a whole lot more than when I started.
Eric Benet -
I've learned in my older age how to let it go when things don't work out, because something incredible that I don't know about yet is probably right around the corner.
